Get CosmicIRC

How to install it

This takes about two minutes. Just follow along in order.

Tap the download button above

Your phone will save a file named CosmicIRC.apk. You'll usually see it appear at the bottom of your screen, or in your notifications.

Open the downloaded file

Tap the download notification, or open your Files (or Downloads) app and tap on CosmicIRC.apk.

If your phone shows a warning, that's normal

Android shows a message like "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source." This appears for every app that doesn't come from the Google Play Store — it doesn't mean anything is wrong with CosmicIRC.

Tap Settings on that screen, turn on Allow from this source, then tap the back button and open the file again.

Only do this for files you trust. You can always turn that setting back off afterward — it's in your phone's Settings app under Apps → Special access → Install unknown apps.

Tap Install, then Open

Installation only takes a few seconds. Once it finishes, tap Open — or find the CosmicIRC icon on your home screen any time after that.

You're already in the chat!

There's nothing to sign up for. The app gives you a random guest name like Cosmic4821 and drops you straight into the main chat room. Just start typing.

Want your own name instead of the random one? Open the app, go to Settings, tap on CosmicIRC, and change your nickname any time.

Once you're in

A few things you can do right away.

Chat

Type a message at the bottom of the screen and hit send, just like texting.

Tap the smiley icon next to the message box to add one.

Share a photo

Tap the paperclip icon to send a picture from your gallery or camera.

Voice chat

Tap the phone icon at the top of a room to talk with whoever's there.

Questions

Is this safe to install?

Yes. This app isn't on the Google Play Store yet, which is the only reason your phone shows the warning in Step 3 — that warning appears for any app installed this way, not just this one. Only download CosmicIRC from this official page.

Do I need an account or password?

No. You're given a temporary guest name automatically. You can pick a permanent name later if you'd like — see the tip above.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no ads.
